The current 2012th year is the ninth in the list of the warmest since 1850, when they began to be carried out as documented observation of the climate. World Meteorological Organization (WMO) is reporting about that.
WMO noted that the air temperature in the first 10 months of 2012 was high, despite the effect of La Nini - meteorological phenomenon, which involves the cooling of the earth's atmosphere.
WMO report was submitted on 28 November at the climate change conference in Doha.
The authors noted that the high temperature with unprecedented melting of Arctic sea ice and a number of extreme weather and climate events, which showed that climate change.
"The thickness of the Arctic sea ice reached a new record low. This year’s alarming rate of melting of ice is a new evidence of serious far reaching changes to the oceans and to the biosphere. Climate change is in front of us and will continue as a result of the concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, which is constantly growing and has reached new record levels, "- said the head of WMO, Michel Jarraud.
In the period from January to October 2012 extreme weather events occurring around the world, including heat waves in North America and Europe, drought in the U.S., China, Brazil and parts of Eastern Europe and Russia. Floods were reported in the Sahel region in Africa, Pakistan and China. An unusual snowfall and cold in Russia and Eastern Europe was observed.
In the Atlantic basin hurricane numbers exceed the average figure for the third year in a row. In total, there were 19 storms. 10 of them have reached the level of hurricane, the most powerful of which was Hurricane Sandy, swept through the Caribbean and the U.S. East Coast.
