|Foreign Ministers of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) will gather in Bishkek, Kyrgyz Republic, on 10 October 2008. |
The CIS Foreign Ministers will consider over 26 issues at the meeting, CIS Executive Committee said. It should be noted that the CIS Foreign Ministers will hold their meeting on the eve of the session of the CIS Heads of States, which will also take place in Bishkek.
The session of foreign ministers will discuss the agenda of the session of the CIS Heads of States and some other issues regarding activities of the Commonwealth.
It is expected that the foreign ministers will consider membership of Georgia in the CIS. Earlier, Georgia said it will withdraw from the organization.
Executive Committee of the CIS already started all necessary processes relating to withdrawal of the Georgia and it is expected that the country will fully withdraw from the organization from 18 August 2009 in line with the CIS Charter.
One of the main issues in the agenda of the session will be issues of draft decision on optimization of the bodies of sectoral cooperation with the Commonwealth. Currently, there are 78 bodies of sectoral cooperation in the CIS, which ensures development of economic integration, expansion of humanitarian cooperation and security and stability in the CIS area.
However, there are some shortcomings in the activity of the bodies. Some bodies did not held sessions for two year or even more. The Concept on further development of the CIS and plan on main measures on its realization envisages creation of optimal and effective structures and bodies of the Commonwealth.
The session will also consider draft agreement on interaction of defence ministries of the CIS in control of radiation, chemical and biologic situation and agreement on cooperation against illegal production and turnover of weapons and armors.
Foreign Ministers will also discuss two documents related to education sphere, one of them is recognition of documents on higher professional education of each others.
It is expected that the participants are planning to consider draft agreement on joint production of films and report of the CIS Executive Committee on cooperation of the CIS structures with other regional organizations.
The Council of the Foreign Ministers of the CIS will also discuss other issues of their competence.
