The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees has appealed for continued calm in the wake of deadly ethnic clashes in southern Kyrgyzstan to allow for reconciliation efforts to gain traction.
The OSCE Permanent Council adopted a statement on 2 July that expressed its readiness to assist Kyrgyzstan and called for a quick conclusion of negotiations with Kyrgyzstan's authorities.
United Nations on 1 July sent a convoy of 28 trucks loaded with humanitarian relief from the city of Andijan in Uzbekistan to the southern Kyrgyz city of Osh to assist people affected by the recent unrest in southern Kyrgyzstan.
Over 90% of voters supported a new Kyrgyz constitution in a referendum held on 27 June. 90.55% voted for the proposed referendum, which would reduce the president's powers and make Kyrgyzstan a parliamentary republic.
UNFPA Kyrgyzstan continues its efforts to meet the humanitarian needs of people in Osh and Jalalabad who have been affected by the violence that began on 11 June.
